1.                   CATALOG DESCRIPTION:

 

This course provides for practical educational experience in undergraduate course laboratories.  It may be taken more than once for credit. 

 

Prerequisites:  Completion of the course in which the laboratory is offered, or of an equivalent course, and consent of instructor.

 

2.                   COURSE CONTENT:

 

This is a practical course; students assist in labs and learn by helping others.

 

3.                   RATIONALE FOR THE COURSE:

 

The best way to learn is to teach.  Assisting is a positive part of a resume or curriculum vita.  Not enough money for graduate lab assistants.

 

4.                   SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED OR EXPECTED:

 

Completion of the course in which the laboratory is offered, or of an equivalent course, and permission of instructor.

Students re-learn materials by explaining to other students.  Students learn to deal with other people.

 

Students learn to prepare quizzes, grade papers and quizzes and give brief instructions – under a professor’s direction.

Assessment of participation, of quizzes and grading done, and of usefulness of student to others.
